about

May 31, 2010, somewhere in the Mediterranean: the Free Gaza Floatilla, six civilian-organized ships carrying humanitarian aid, sailed toward Gaza. In international waters, the Floatilla was intercepted and raided by the Israeli military. By the end of the day, 9 passengers aboard the Turkish ship Mavi Marmara were killed, many others were wounded; the Flotilla was towed to an Israeli port where all were detained and then deported.

May 31, 2010, somewhere in Washington state: I awoke to news of the Floatilla's interception and then left home to play with the Seattle Rock Orchestra at the Sasquatch music festival, a weekend-long apolitical bacchanal; late that night, I got home and learned the rest of the murderous story.

lyrics

Dear Gaza, I can hear your voice
dear Gaza, can you hear me?

I am singing
Dear Gaza
I am still singing

i’m on a stage
should I still sing?
Can I still sing?

Dear Gaza, I am singing
with sadness
with love
with joy
with pain

our boats await your shores
one day

Dear Gaza, I believe
I believe, one day
